The McManis Syrah is a great wine at a bargain price! It has earned high ratings and a spot on the Wine Enthusiast 100 Best Buys list year after year, and it only costs $10 a bottle!

Anyone who knows me knows that McManis is my favorite winery. I've liked every one of about ten varietals that I've tried and they've all cost just $10 a bottle. But not only is their wine affordable and consistently good, their winery and vineyard operations are ecofriendly. All of the McManis vineyards have earned the "Sustainable Winegrowing" certification from the "Lodi Rules Program", and in 2016, McManis Family Vineyards was awarded the California Green Medal Award for Sustainable Winegrowing (source)! Oh yes, McManis Family Vineyards is a very impressive winery!

Of all the McManis varietals, the Syrah might be my favorite. It's such a smooth and impressive wine, particularly for the price. And it's not just me! Wine Enthusiast rated the 2015 McManis Syrah 87 points and included it in the "100 Best Buys" list. The 2014 was rated 89 points and also on the Best Buy list, and the 2013 Syrah also made the list and earned 87 points. As you can see, there is a trend!
"Toasted oak and cardamom aromas give way to powerful oaky flavors on the palate, where maple, stewed plum and toasted bread flavors accompany a soft, easy texture."

"Our 2015 McManis Family Vineyards Syrah shows aromas of bright ripe blackberry with cherries and currants with a subtle bouquet of vanilla oak and toffee. The wine is medium purple in color with a youthful hue. At bottling, the wine showed dark berry fruit flavors and finishes rich and round with subtle notes of toasty oak and a lingering finish."

I have to agree with McManis on this one. I (and my husband) get lot of fruit on the nose, namely ripe blackberries and currants. On the palate, flavors of plum, vanilla and bread come through until the finish, which is dominated by toffee. As Wine Enthusiast says, it has a soft, easy texture, and wow is this wine easy-drinking! It would pair well with food or cheese, but I typically enjoy it by itself so I can really savor the flavors.
